Not sure where to go next? That's what this page is for. Every season I pick a handful of spots around the USA that are perfect for a quick getaway, whether it's a girls' trip, moms and daughters, dads and sons, or the whole crew. Each card gives you the scoop on what makes the place special, what you could do while you're there, when to go, how to get there, and where you could stay.
Think of these as a starting point, not a set menu. Nothing here is a fixed package, so we can mix, match, and make it yours. Swap a day, add an adventure, or stretch it to three nights. I can handle the stays, the experiences, and the flights if you'd rather fly in. New picks show up with each season, so check back often.

Hot Springs, AR
Great for: girls' trips, moms and daughters, anybody who needs a break
Hot Springs is a national park that's also a cute little downtown. A row of historic bathhouses lines the main street, where people have been soaking in the thermal water for over a century. It's quirky, relaxing, and unlike anywhere else.
Book a traditional bath and come out feeling brand new, then stroll the shops and grab dinner downtown. If somebody in your crew needs adrenaline, there's a zipline over the forest too.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Year-round. Fall and spring are especially pretty.
Getting there: Fly into Little Rock (about an hour away), or drive in from the Midwest and South.
Where you could stay: A cozy cottage or lake house near downtown.
New River Gorge, WV
Great for: father-son trips, buddy weekends, adventure lovers
Hey fellas, if your idea of relaxing is getting soaked, muddy, and a little scared (the fun kind), this is your spot. New River Gorge is one of the country's newest national parks, with big whitewater, towering cliffs, and a famous bridge that spans the whole gorge.
You can raft some serious rapids, walk the catwalk underneath that giant bridge, and tear up the trails on an ATV. Then head into the little town of Fayetteville for burgers and a cold one.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Late spring and summer for big water. Early fall is warm and colorful.
Getting there: Fly into Charleston, WV, then drive about an hour.
Where you could stay: A cabin in the woods near Fayetteville.
Green Bay, WI
Great for: father-son trips, dads and daughters, lifelong fans
Whether you bleed green and gold or just respect the history, Lambeau Field is one of those places you should see at least once. It's one of the most famous stadiums in the NFL, and the team is owned by its fans, right in a small city that lives and breathes football.
Walk through the tunnel, stand at field level, and explore the Hall of Fame. If you can plan the weekend around a home game, get ready for tailgating like you've never seen.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Fall for football season, but stadium tours run year-round.
Getting there: Fly into Green Bay, or drive in from Milwaukee or Chicago.
Where you could stay: A rental close to the stadium so you can walk to the action.
Salem, Mass.
Great for: girls' trips, moms and daughters, history lovers
Hey girlie, Salem is where 1692 still feels close enough to touch. Twenty people were executed during the witch trials, and today this little harbor town tells that story with memorials, museums, and centuries-old houses you can walk right past. By day it's history. After dark, it's ghost stories by lantern light.
It's small and walkable, so you park the car and wander together through cobblestone streets full of tarot readers, witchy boutiques, and cozy cafes. It's spooky, a little sassy, and a whole lot of fun with the right crew.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: September and early November are the sweet spots. October is Salem's Super Bowl, with huge crowds, so book early if that's your month.
Getting there: Fly into Boston, then it's about 30 minutes to Salem.
Where you could stay: A historic home or cozy rental within walking distance of downtown.
Blue Ridge & Helen, GA
Great for: girls' trips, sister trips, couples
Picture this: a mountain cabin with a porch, a fire pit, and a blanket, surrounded by trees going red and gold. Blue Ridge, Georgia is a charming little mountain town with a scenic railroad that winds along the river to a pair of towns sitting right on the Georgia-Tennessee line. Yes, you can stand in two states at once.
About an hour away is Helen, a little Bavarian-style village on the Chattahoochee River with wine tastings, candy shops, and plenty of Oktoberfest energy in the fall. Cozy level: maximum.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Mid-October into early November for peak leaves.
Getting there: Fly into Atlanta, then it's about a two-hour drive into the mountains.
Where you could stay: A mountain cabin with a hot tub and a view. This one's all about the cabin.
Jim Thorpe, PA
Great for: families, grandparents and grandkids, couples
Tucked into a river gorge in the Pocono Mountains, Jim Thorpe looks like a Victorian postcard: church steeples, brick storefronts, and mountains rising on every side. In the fall, the whole gorge lights up in color, and people come from all over just to see it.
It's the kind of town that has something for every age. The little ones can ride a vintage train, the adventurous crew can take on whitewater or bike the gorge trail, and Grandma can happily browse the shops and grab a coffee.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: October for peak foliage. Late spring and summer are great for rafting.
Getting there: Fly into Allentown or Philadelphia, then drive about an hour or two.
Where you could stay: A Victorian-style rental right in town, walking distance to everything.
Stowe, VT
Great for: moms and daughters, girls' trips, couples
Hey lady, if you've ever pictured the perfect New England fall, it probably looks like Stowe. There's a white church steeple, covered bridges, and maple trees blazing red and orange, with Mount Mansfield, Vermont's tallest peak, standing guard over the village.
The food is half the fun: fresh cider donuts, maple everything, and yes, an ice cream factory tour nearby. Stowe is cozy, slow, and made for long walks and good conversation.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Late September through mid-October for peak color. Winter brings great skiing.
Getting there: Fly into Burlington, then it's about 45 minutes to Stowe.
Where you could stay: A cozy mountain rental or inn with a fireplace.
Asheville, NC
Great for: girls' trips, couples, foodies
Asheville is a funky, artsy mountain town surrounded by some of the prettiest scenery in the East. There's live music on the street corners, galleries on every block, craft breweries everywhere you turn, and a food scene that punches way above its size.
The Blue Ridge Parkway winds right past town, with overlook after overlook and waterfalls just a short hike away. Asheville is still bouncing back from Hurricane Helene in 2024, so your visit really helps local businesses.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: October for the leaves. Spring is gorgeous with blooming mountains.
Getting there: Fly right into Asheville.
Where you could stay: A mountain-view cabin or a cool downtown loft.
Nashville, TN
Great for: girls' trips, birthdays, "we survived the year" celebrations
There's a reason Nashville is the girls' trip capital of the South. Live music pours out of every door on Broadway, day and night, and the energy is contagious. Even if you swear you're not a country girl, you'll be two-stepping by Saturday.
The food alone is worth the trip: hot chicken, biscuits, and brunch spots with rooftop views. Your crew can go as loud or as low-key as you want. No judgment here.
Things you could do:
Best time to go: Spring and fall for comfortable weather. Summer is hot but lively.
Getting there: Fly right into Nashville, or it's an easy drive from much of the Midwest and South.
Where you could stay: A big rental with room for the whole crew (and enough bathrooms, trust me).
